Tree Planting

Tree Planting Leicestershire- Here at Beddow Tree Specialists we really enjoy getting involved with planting schemes whether they are large or small.  We can plant trees from 1m (3ft) t

o 8m (26ft) + high and we are able to source most species.  Shrubs large or small can also be sourced or even a combination.

What’s really important when selecting a new tree is getting the right advice, if the wrong species is selected then the period of time the tree may survive could be cut dramatically.  Consider; potential size, leaf size, canopy density, structure, form, foliage colour, leaf flower or seed fall, insects the tree may attract, water requirement, soil type, root depth, water uptake when the tree matures, evergreen or deciduous, etc.  Often there is a tree that fits the spot, however, sometimes foliage colour required or another aspect is so strong that there is no alternative but to plant a tree that will outgrow the spot.  In this case we can give you an estimate to longevity and overall cost including removal in the future, which is often only £10 per year.  So don’t dismiss a species of tree you loved as a child or have another affinity with just because it ultimately gets too large. When planting trees we have two main support systems.  For smaller trees and to keep the cost down we employ twin stakes with a cross member.  This system offers great support and needs very little maintenance.  The height of the support is important as we impact on stem taper, vandalism, etc.  The support will only stay in place for 2 – 3 years and can often be recycled.  Larger trees or when the initial impact is important can be planted using an underground anchorage system.  This system is invisible after planting and doesn’t impact on stem taper.

Trees and shrubs are available to plant in a multiple of root types Bare Root, Rootballed, Containerised, and Air pots:

Bare root – This is where the tree is pulled from the ground and has the soil shaken off the roots.  It is only suitable for vigorous stock and will likely show some transplant stress for a few years after planting.  These trees can only be staked.  Availability is November to February only.

Root balled – Similar to bare root but a ball of soil is retained around the root system.  A proportion of the roots are left in the ground.  The newly planted trees are likely to show stress following planting.

Containerised – Not just black pots, there are white bags, Root control bags (RCB) and a few other types.  In this case the plant does not lose a proportion (small percentage of fine roots with RCB) of roots during transplanting.  The downside is that if not cared for correctly the roots may be wrapping around themselves or bound so tight the tree can never establish a structurally sound root system, in which case the tree will fail when the canopy gets too large.  The advantage is they are available all year long so if your prepared to water correctly you don’t have to wait.

Air pots – This system creates an equally radiating root system which cannot wrap on itself and is primed ready to establish as soon as planted.  Larger more expensive stock generally use this type of root system and again are available all year long.

When planting we consider, the nursery line / planting depth, drainage, irrigation, soil additives such as specialist compost, mulch to reduce weed competition and retain moisture.  Its not just a case of throwing a tree into a hole!

Watering is so important and so commonly overlooked.  Consider a large tree in a nursery may be given 25 litres of water per day.  If the tree is then planted in your garden it cannot access the water in the surrounding soil immediately so it needs some water.  Even a heavy rain storm can have little impact.  We will advise you of a suitable watering regime for your tree, shrub or hedge.

We always add Mycorrhizae to the planting pit as these symbiotic root fungi aid enormously in tree development.

So if you are looking to plant a tree, shrub, hedge, bed, garden, woodland, arboretum or pinetum then get in touch as we’ll be delighted!

I fully recommend Beddow Trees Specialists. They are very professionals, hard workers and polite. I never had any issues with them, on the contrary, my neighbours are using them too.

Beddow tree Specialist did a great job of removing our 2 lime tree.
From initial enquiry they were quick to response and survey. Followed up by sending an email quote.

Provisional dates were agreed as our trees had Protection orders on them and we had to wait for the local authority authorisation.
Work was carried out professionally, the lads worked hard, quickly removing the trees and did a great job of tidying up.

We had tree works carried out by Beddows today.
We are very pleased with the results.

They worked on three mature trees at the bottom of the garden. Many of the large branches were overhanging neighbouring gardens. I was concerned that damage to their property could have occurred.

I didn’t need to , they worked very safely and carefully.

They also had to work above my workshop which they did without damage.
They left the garden in a really clean condition.

I would have no hesitation recommending this company. They are very friendly, easy to work with and totally professional.

“Thanks too for sorting out a date and time for Mike to visit to give us a quote.  It’s very reassuring that an email quote follows swiftly after a personal visit.  We have very much valued advice from Mike, he is really knowledgeable and more importantly, willing to share!

The work was carried out professionally with the area left clean and tidy with no damage to the surrounding area.  All waste was removed and paths cleared.  Apart from a lighter, clearer space, you really wouldn’t know anyone had been working there”!
