APPRENTICE AGRICULTURAL / FORESTRY MECHANIC AND OPERATOR
Are you mechanically minded, like working outside and want to become an integral part of the team? Do you have a good work ethic, are detailed in your work and are honest?
This is a start at the bottom role with full training supplied through an in house apprenticeship for the right candidate to take you all the way through your career. You will be expected to attend training courses with an approved training provider, in addition to in house and ‘on the job training’ at Beddow Tree and clients sites.
You will need a driving license and be personally motivated to develop your skill set and push the business forward. Capable of working without supervision and maintaining performance.
You must be prepared to work with Risk Assessments and adhere to Health & Safety policies at all times.
Basic Roles:
· Operating 5x different size stump grinders
· Basic maintenance and servicing on plant and vehicles developing into more complex work with experience and qualifications.
· Maintaining Biomass Boiler
· Planting Trees and Shrubs
· Undertaking felling of trees and extraction of timber.
· Processing firewood with Log Splitter, Circular saw and firewood processor.
· Delivering Firewood
· Operating mini-digger / ground work
· Operating Telehandlers Large and Small
· Operating Compact Tractors
· Concreting and basic block work
· Welding
· Sharpening and Maintenance of Chainsaws, Hedgecutters, blowers, etc.
For the right candidate Beddow Tree will pay for training and the internal apprenticeship is expected to be undertaken over phased periods. The phases of your internal apprenticeship will commence after your probation period (<6mths) and will be structured as follows:

ARBORIST APPRENTICE/ TRAINEE TREE SURGEON
Here at Beddow Tree Specialists we have a full trainee position available for someone who is very keen to become a tree surgeon.
We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic people with an interest in tree surgery to join us on an internal apprenticeship and someone looking for a long-term career with Beddow Tree. This is a start at the bottom role with full training supplied through an apprenticeship for the right candidate to take you all the way through your career, as high as you can go! You will be expected to attend training courses with an approved training provider, in addition to in house and ‘on the job training’ at Beddow Tree client sites.
You need to have a Driving License and a passion for becoming a tree surgeon. Prepared to work hard and have diligent work practice. A head for heights is also required!

TREE SURGEON CLIMBER
We are looking for a qualified experienced tree climber with crew leading experience to join the team. Experienced climber, Lead Climber, crew leader level or foreman.
A positive mindset and work ethic with a detailed approach is essential in being able to deliver the highest quality of work in a competitive market. Finding the right person who shares the business ethos and is a real team player, is the priority.
You must be committed to undertaking work in a safe manner and embrace the health and safety requirements of our industry.
You will need to hold chainsaw licenses to at least Chainsaw in the Tree and must have a driving license. Ideally rigging and a trailer license, but not essential.
We work predominantly around the Leicestershire area with a focus on domestic tree work.
Very well equipped with own Mewp, Norcar, Merlo, 2x 8" chippers, 5 stump grinders, etc.
Training and development will be offered to the right candidate following a settling in period.
Potential of development into sales role for right candidate.
Pay will be inline with skill set and experience.

PLANT OPERATOR, MECHANIC, WORKSHOP MANAGER
A varied key role within the business for an organised person that enjoys working with and on machinery.
· Maintaining and organising maintenance on equipment.
· Operating the Stump grinders on site.
· Managing the workshop.
· Operating telehandlers, mini-loaders, digger, tractors, stump grinders, firewood processors, cherry picker, biomass boiler, etc.
· Working alongside tree crews either operating machinery or stump grinders.
· Aiding in development of other staff with maintenance skills.
A role for someone looking to become an integral part of the business. You will have input into maintenance cycles, new equipment purchasing, training and work organisation.
We do not expect a complete matching CV for this unique role so training and courses will be provided as required.
Maintenance of Equipment: 30% of work time
We have a large range of equipment including; Various vans, Compact tractors, Woodchippers, stump grinders, petrol chainsaws and hedge cutters, telehandler, Norcar loader, compact tractors, mini-digger, spider type Cherry Picker and firewood processing section. Routine cyclical maintenance is required for all equipment and management of the system to ensure everything is on top of is essential. Analysis of service schedules and equipment will be looked at to ensure efficiency.
Regular mechanical requirements:
· Welding
· Hydraulics
· Basic Automotive Electrics
· Vehicle and machinery servicing
· Chipper maintenance (blade changing)
· Engine replacement or refurbishment (diesel and petrol)
Operate the Stump grinders: 40% of work time
We have 5 different sizes of stump grinders which all are slightly different sizes allowing access to nearly all sites. From 26” wide pedestrian grinders that need to be physically pushed to 36” wide fully hydraulic remote control. You will need to be physically strong as the smallest machine does require manual effort. Stump grinding is undertaken both with full tree crews on site and also independently so an ability to self-manage and motivate is essential.
· Full training will be given on use of the machines and cable detection equipment.
· Machines are loaded onto bespoke vehicle and taken to site to perform tasks required. Sometimes this will be for entire working days, more often it is for a proportion of the day.
· As part of this role the up-keep of the grinders would include routine greasing and level checks, rotation and replacing teeth, managing stocks of teeth, ensuring full safe working order.
Workshop management: 5% of work time
The heated workshop is where you will need to work efficiently management of this area will also fall to this role. Ensuring other staff put things back and the area is kept in a suitable manner. Layout and equipment selection will be part of this role.
Biomass Boiler maintenance: 10% of work time
· We operate a 300kw boiler which runs on woodchip biomass and heats the workshop amongst other areas.
· Routine maintenance usually takes <4hrs one man per week spread over 3 days. However, at times further work is required. Training given on this equipment.
Infrastructure development: 15% of work time
· Some concreting of the yard etc, possibly basic brick laying and other tasks which aid in the development of the business are required from time to time.
· Supporting in development of business working practice.
Supporting Tree Crews:
· When other tasks are in control then working with the tree crews will be expected. This would involve feeding the woodchipper, felling if you have a chainsaw license, etc.
· When larger equipment is being utilised on site it is expected that the person in this role would be operator of equipment.
Key Skills for Candidate:
· An excellent work ethic, capable of maintaining standards and production even when working alone.
· Ability to solve problems, e.g. research a repair and undertake if within skill set.
· Excellent organisation to manage equipment maintenance cycles and work actively to aid in refining and improving continuously.
· Professional approach to work.
· Team player – working within a small team <10 persons means everyone must pull their weight and pull together.
· Communication is very important to not only ensure you get the support required but also make your role easier.
· Good mechanic knowledge and natural ability.
· This role is very varied and would suit someone looking for variety in their working life.
· We are looking for the right person that will develop and become a key member of the team.
